Wondama Regency Government Prepares Rp. 31 Billion in the 2020 Regional Head Election budget

The Teluk Wondama Regency Government, West Papua, is preparing a budget of Rp. 31 billion to finance the 2020 Regional Head Election (Pilkada). The

funds will be shared for the Rp. 20 billion General Election Commission (KPU). The remaining IDR 6 billion will be given to the Election Supervisory Body and IDR 5 billion will be given to the police for security.

Wondama Regional Secretary, Denny Simbar in Wasior on Wednesday said the budget had been accommodated in the draft Budget General Policy and the Temporary Budget Priority Ceiling (KUA-PPAS) of the 2020 regional budgetPBD which in the near future will be submitted to the DPRD.

According to the Regional Secretary, the regency government has received a proposal for budgetary requirements for the 2020 Pilkada from the KPU, Bawaslu and Wondama Bay Police.

“But actually the proposal from the three agencies is Rp. 39 billion KPU, Rp. 17 billion for Bawaslu, Rp. 12 billion for Polres, so the total is Rp. 68 billion. But we can only prepare almost half of the proposals they submit, “said Simbar.

The Regional Secretary said, the regional government would invite the KPU, Bawaslu, together with the Teluk Wondama Regional Police to discuss the election budget. It was done to synchronize the needs of each activity.

He hoped the KPU, Bawaslu and the Polres could agree on the budget plan that had been made by the district government given the limited financial condition of the region.

“Next week the regional government budget team will invite the three agencies to be discussed again. But what is clear in the draft KUA-PPAS 2020 has been allocated almost half of what they proposed,” said Simbar.

He understands that the budget prepared by the regional government is still far from the expectations of the three institutions. Even so, it is hoped that the budget can be utilized properly.

“This is not final, there will still be a joint meeting later. But hopefully each party can accept it,” he said.
