Raja Ampat Regency Government, West Papua Province held an inaugural meeting with all tourism stakeholders to discuss the holding of the 2019 Maritime Festival.
The meeting, which took place at the Head of the Raja Ampat Regency Tourism Office in Waisai on Thursday, was attended tourism stakeholders, including Conservation International (CI) Indonesia, The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Fauna Flora International (FFI) Indonesia Program, Association of Indonesian Tourists (HPI) Raja Ampat, Homestay Association, and Tourism Boat Association in Raja Ampat.
The meeting led by the Head of the Raja Ampat Regency Tourism Office Yusdi Lamatenggo was also attended by all relevant regional organizations (OPD) in the local district government.
Yusdi Lamatenggo said the theme of this year’s Nautical Festival was “Exotic Raja Ampat”, while activities in three places were Waisai, the capital city of Raja Ampat Regency, Sapokren Village, and Teluk Mayalibit.
He explained that the concept of the Maritime Festival this year was slightly different from the previous year, where tourists who took part in the festival tour package had to stay at the homestay of the local community in Waisai, Sapokren Village, Teluk Mayalibit, and surrounding areas.
In addition, he said, in carrying out tourism trips to tourist destinations are required to use fast boats Raja Ampat and boat tours belonging to the local community.
“It aims to empower local communities, especially economic growth. It is expected that the 2019 Maritime Festival can improve the economy of local communities, especially tourism business actors,” he said.
