President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) spoke of the difficulty of taking over Freeport’s shares by 51 percent. There is pressure and political intrigue behind it.
“It was thought that taking over Freeport was easy? If it was easy and easy, it had been taken over from the past. I think the scholars knew we were dealing with whom. Thinking there was no political intrigue that pressed us from the front? Fortunately I was thin,” Jokowi said in gathering with kiai and habetabek habetabek at the State Palace, Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, Central Jakarta, Thursday (7/2/2019).
Jokowi said that for 4 years the government had negotiated the divestment of PT Freeport’s shares. The order was conveyed expressly to his minister.
“This is not political back and forth only for the sake of a moment. This is the 4 years we have done. It is not an easy item. Not an easy negotiation. Is this order correct? My minister asked,” explained Jokowi.
In front of the cleric, Jokowi also answered anti-clerical allegations. Jokowi stressed the allegations were baseless.
“Regarding the criminalization of clerics and anti-Islam. How is that? Earlier the MUI Chairperson was told. Who is the Santri Day signature? This is not riya. I just want to remind, whose signature is Santri Day,” Jokowi explained.
