Jayapura Wants To Make Waterfalls As A Source Of Power Plants

Jayapura Regency in Papua Province has many natural resources that can be used for the lives of the people in it. One of them is the use of electricity from waterfalls.

Head of the Jayapura Regency Regional Planning Agency, Hana Hikoyabi, said the number of waterfalls to be used as power plants is quite large. Quite large are Cyclop waterfalls in Sentani originating from Cyclop Mountain and Kampung Harapan Waterfall.

“The waterfall has a lot of potential. In Pos 7 there is one waterfall, there are two in another post. So much,” Hana said to the coil on Sunday (12/16).

In addition, Hana said there are also many smaller waterfalls that can be used as Mini Hydro Power Plants (PLTMH). Hana hopes this waterfall can be a new source of electricity.

Hana said the future plan to use electricity by using a waterfall would indeed be built. But it is still in the planning stage. Hana is reluctant to detail it.

So far, the electricity supply in Jayapura Regency is still largely supported by diesel use or Diesel Power Plants (PLTD). But, Hana said, there were no significant obstacles. Electricity is running smoothly from PT PLN (Persero).
