President Joko Widodo stressed that road construction in West Papua will continue despite disturbances from armed criminal groups. This was revealed by Jokowi after attending the 2018 National Muslim Intellectuals Association (ICMI) Silaturahmi (National Silaturahmiyah) event at the Mahligai Agung Convention Hall in the Postgraduate University of Bandar Lampung (UBL), Thursday, December 6, 2018.
“I convey that development in West Papua is still ongoing, and our development is completed as soon as possible,” Jokowi stressed.
But in the construction, Jokowi requested that always be accompanied by security forces so that safety can be guaranteed even in the wilderness.
“For development in (West) Papua, we will prepare infrastructure, especially roads in West Papua will not stop and keep going for the sake of social justice for all the people of Indonesia,” he explained.
Previously, 31 Trans-Papua Road project workers who were building bridges in Kali Yigi and Kali Aurak, Yigi District, Nduga District, Papua, were shot by armed criminal groups on Monday 3 December 2018.
