Trans Papua road construction is one of the priority agenda for infrastructure development outside Java President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Vice President Jusuf Kalla (JK). Until the end of 2019, the total length of the Trans Papua road network 4,330 km is targeted to be all connected.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said the construction of the Trans Papua road was carried out on a large scale in the current government. This is evidenced by the large allocation of infrastructure budget for development in Papua.

“We give the budget a lot bigger. In his government (Jokowi), in Papua it is around Rp. 6 trillion before separating the hall from West Papua. Before we can see the data is definitely smaller,” Basuki said when met in his office. , Jakarta, Friday (9/14/2018).

Basuki also said that the greater the infrastructure development budget allocated to the Ministry of PUPR, the greater the budget allocated to Papua.

“In PU, in 2014, it also had Rp. 60 trillion, Rp. 70 trillion in budget. Then it rose to Rp. 100 trillion in 2015. Then it continued to be maintained. Now that gives priority (budget) to Papua,” he added.

As for 2015-2019, the government targets to complete 1,066 km of the Trans Papua road so that it becomes functional / passable entirely. All Trans Papua roads will be completed by the end of 2019, through 865 km of new road construction in Papua Province and 151 km in West Papua Province.

However, until the end of 2019 there will still be 1,678 km of unpaved roads in Papua Province and 379.39 km in West Papua Province.
